Quick Review: The Devil's Backbone

Rented this one from Netflix on a friend’s enthusiastic recommendation, and quite enjoyed it. Set in Civil War Spain, it’s a great ghost story that reminds us that flesh can be far more frightening than phantasm. The largely juvenile cast handles the melodrama gracefully, and they’re pitted against an imminently worthy villain. I’m kind of surprised that I’m seeing for the first time 8 years after release, but I recommend it highly.

It’s a minor quibble, but there was a bit too much aliasing in the subtitles. Probably no one else will care, but that got on my nerves a touch. You should still see it.
